Planting day at a vineyard
can turn into a learning experience as well as being a chance
to create community relationships. Such was the
the case the Vineyards
at Mill Creek in March 2014. Having been able to harvest their
first crop the previous year, expansion with
additional vines from
cuttings of their existing vines plus the addition of a new variety
for a different type of wine was the order of the day.
To me, it was like the
barn raising traditions that have been seen in films of Quakers.
A creation of a community spirit beyond just the free
labor that is provided.
With a barbeque lunch provided and a sampling of last year's wine
promised, residents from around the local area
jumped at the chance
to have a hand at a new creation.
