Sargeant Timothy Padgett, an Army Ranger Medic with the 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, NC, was the first Walton County, FL, casualty

in Operation Enduring Freedom. Padgett, a lifelong resident of Defuniak Springs, FL, was killed May 8, 2007, in Tarin Kwot, Afghanistan, when

his unit was attacked by enemy forces during combat operations. Padgett, a former South Walton County firefighter and paramedic, was met at

the Defuniak Springs Airport by family and friends including his 8-year-old daughter, Summer. On her eighth birthday, she received presents from

her father and also learned of his death on the same day.
